Susan Schack Ph.D.
Dr. Schack is a clinical psychologist in private practice with offices in Center City and in Chestnut Hill. In order to best help you, Dr. Schack will pull from over twenty years of experience and training from psychoanalytic, systems, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) approaches. She works with individuals and couples who struggle with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse/misuse, and personality disorders.
Early in her career Dr. Schack was intensively trained in DBT, CBT for anxiety and psychodynamic treatment at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and proceeded to work there as a supervising psychologist for five years where she worked in the inpatient, day program, and outpatient units.
As an expert consultant for the Center for Motivation and Change (CMC) in New York City, she developed and ran the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups in their intensive outpatient day program for over a decade. CMC is a premier, private practice group of clinicians who specialize in the treatment of substance abuse and other compulsive behaviors. During her tenure at CMC, Dr. Schack trained the staff and led onsite clinical supervision in DBT. In Philadelphia, Dr. Schack continued to hone her DBT clinical skills, with the staff at Center for Acceptance and Change in Bala Cynwyd. She participated in a DBT team there and collaborated on clinical cases for eight years. Dr. Schack has developed an extensive network of clinicians in Philadelphia who she collaborates with on a regular basis.
Most recently. Dr. Schack has been focusing her training on her work with couples. She has completed Gottman Level II training and participates in a peer supervision group on couples therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy.
